Betting and casinos have always fascinated men. The excitement, the exclusive surroundings, thrilling games such as Casino slots and the special atmosphere keep attracting new hopeful players. It is, therefore, no wonder that casinos are also a theme often depicted in the movies.

The Cooler

The Cooler is an American movie released in 2003. It is a romantic drama starring actors such as William H. Macy, Alec Baldwin, Maria Bello and Ron Livingston. It was directed by Wayne Kramer and produced by Sean Furst and Michael A. Pierce.

The plot of the movie is based around the unlucky Bernie Lootz (William H. Macy). He lives alone in a worn-down studio apartment close to the Las Vegas Strip. He is paying back a large debt to a casino owner, by working as a “cooler” – spreading his bad luck to players around the same table just by being present. His luck does, however, change after meeting cocktail waitress Natalie Belisario (Maria Bello).

Ocean’s Eleven

Ocean’s Eleven is a remake of the classic 1960 film of the same name. It is a typical American heist movie, directed by Steven Spielberg, and starring an exclusive list of actors like:

  • Julia Roberts

The plot is based around how the group plans and execute the robbing of the three famous casinos – the Mirage, the MGM Grand, and the Bellagio. The movie was a big hit both with the audience and the critics, and Spielberg later directed two sequels, named Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen.

Casino Royale

The twenty-first James Bond movie, Casino Royale, was the first to star Daniel Craig as Agent 007. It was directed by Martin Campbell and is based on the 1953 novel of the same name. It is focused around a big poker tournament taking place at a luxurious casino in Montenegro. The movie gained critical acclaim for being more realistic than earlier movies in the same series.
